Q: What causes a board to "ghost" (engage the foot pad sensor with no rider present)?
A: Several factors can cause ghosting:

Overheating the foot pad sensor – This often happens when removing stock grip tape. We recommend using minimal heat—just enough to bring the surface temperature to 125°F. For any leftover adhesive residue, use our Adhesive Remover.

Trapped air pockets – Air trapped between the grip tape and the sensor can create pressure, causing unintended engagement. ALL Ignite Grip Tape & Foam Grip Tape is PERFORATED to prevent air pockets from forming.
Q: Will the foam tear, wear out, or flatten if used by aggressive riders over 200 lbs?
A: Yes and no. The foam will show signs of wear over time but will not tear apart. However, it may start to compress with prolonged use. For heavier riders, we recommend the 2mm foam for increased durability.
Q: How should I clean the grip tape?
A: To clean your grip tape, use a brush—you can add water for a deeper clean to restore its original look. Be carful when using water on you footpad with the sensor!
Q: After reinstalling my front foot pad sensor, it won’t engage. What’s wrong?
A: 99 times out of 100, the issue is swapped cables. Double-check that the tire cable is plugged into the tire connector and the foot pad cable is plugged into the foot pad connector.
Q: Is it difficult to remove Ignite Foam Grip Tape? Do I need a heat gun?
A: No heat gun needed! Our custom-formulated 3M adhesive allows for easy removal while adhering securely to wood, plastic, rubber, urethane, and foam. Plus, it leaves virtually ZERO residue when removed!
Q: Why is my Foam Grip Tape tearing into pieces when removing it?
A: Be sure to pull off the adhesive liner at the same time as the foam. This ensures the entire grip tape and foam come off in one piece instead of breaking into small fragments.
Q: Can I install Ignite Grip Tape/Foam Grip Tape over my existing grip tape, or do I need to remove the old one?
A: Always remove your old grip tape! Installing new grip tape over old grip tape is not recommended as it can cause ghosting issues.
Ghosting Prevention for GT Models
After extensive testing, we’ve cracked the code to eliminate ghosting issues on GT front foot pad sensors! Due to known ghosting concerns and different riding styles, we strongly recommend activating Simple Stop in the Future Motion mobile app.
💡 How does Ignite Foam Grip Tape help prevent ghosting?
The springiness of our foam helps pull the sensors apart, preventing accidental engagement. From our testing, we've seen significant ghosting reduction with our foam grip tape!
⚠ However, if Future Motion can’t guarantee their boards won’t ghost, neither can we. If you're concerned about ghosting, we highly recommend enabling Simple Stop.
